Humanity could have achieved much progress

Had people worked according to God's commandments, and the first commandment is the most important one; the first commandment to worship God alone without associate and no other god besides Him

Also had mankind shown mercy among themselves to each other, and transgressed not on each other or trespassed the rights of the weak and the poor

Then God would have given them much blessing and much grace .. they would have achieved peace and achieved much scientific progress by means of God's inspiration

Then they would have known what exactly is the cancer and what its correct curative treatment

They would have lived happily .. they would have gone touring in between the galaxies and reached the
remote planets of the other solar systems

God - be glorified - said in the Quran 7: 96, that which means
If the people of the cities [that We destroyed] had believed [in God alone] and avoided [the
association and the disobedience], surely We should have opened for them blessings from the sky and [from] the earth
But they gave the lie [to the messengers], and so We seized them [with punishment] on account of what they used to earn

More explanation is in the link

God Most Gracious created His creatures so as to be Merciful to them, but most of them chose to commit the wrong-doing, the oppressing of each other and they trespassed the rights of the weak among them .. therefore, He let them taste the tyranny of one another

consequently conflicts, wars, fear, loss of security and peace .. then diseases and disasters afflicted them

Here are the wonderful ayat with their miraculous interpretation

    Quran 11: 116 which mean
If only, among the generations [whom We destroyed] before you

there had been men of a remainder [of conscience and righteousness] forbidding corruption in the earth

[We would not have destroyed them
    a ]

except a few of those [believers who forbade the corruption] whom We saved [of the destruction.
    b

But the wrong-doers followed the [lusts] in which they were prospered c , and [moreover] they were guilty [in addition to their corruption
    .................................................. ....................

116 a It means: If among the past generations, there had been some men having conscience so as to forbid the corruption, We would not have destroyed them with the punishment

116 b i.e. except the believers whom We saved: they forbade the corruption, and they were few

116 c It means: They followed their lusts, and therefore, they did not forbid the corruption, because in fact they themselves were corrupt

    quran-ayat.com/pret/11.htm#a11_118

The implication of this aya: God tells us that He destroyed the past generations because most of them were corrupt. Had they been reformers and upright, He would not have terminated them
They in fact followed their lusts about every sin and disobedience and wrong-doing
Only a few among them were upright and reformers: they forbade the indecency .. and such believers were saved from the punishment and termination

Now listen to this excellent recitation of these and other ayat

Now, study carefully the next aya

    Quran 11: 117, which means
(Nor would your Lord [O Mohammed] destroy the cities unjustly d when their people being reformers.)
    .................................................. ...................

d Without having any sin [deserving the punishment

Here is the explanation of the following two ayat

    Quran 11: 118-119, which mean
If your Lord [O Mohammed] had willed, He would have made people one sect e, but still they disagree and contradict f

Excepting those on whom thy Lord has mercy g, and for such [reason] He has created them h

And it has been fulfilled the word i of thy Lord [that]: "Certainly, I will fill Hell with the genie-kind and the man-kind altogether
    .................................................. .....................

e i.e. Muslims devoting themselves to God alone
But they deviated from the truth and wronged each other; so, because of their wrong-doing, He left them alone with their falsehood

    f The truth, till now

g i.e. save anyone whom God guides because of his kindness to the poor and needy and because he is merciful to the weak and helps them; therefore, God guides him to the way of the truth

h i.e. He created them in order that they become merciful to each other, so they should be merciful to each other and should be kind to each other

i The ‘word of your Lord’ was that God addressed Iblies saying: ("Certainly, I will fill Hell with the genie-kind and the man-kind altogether

The meaning: Hell has been filled with the disbelievers out of the genies and mankind, as had I promised Iblies [Satan] with that
