Jupiter is recently impacted by a new comet

The impact of the comet has been observed by an amateur on Sept. 10 2012: to occur on Jupiter and it has been observed from Earth in spite of the far distance between the two planets.

It is our Moon, not Jupiter, which protects Earth from comets

Some astronomers think that Jupiter protects the Earth from the comets by trapping them before reaching the earth; but I think, it is our Moon not Jupiter that protects the Earth from comets by trapping them: because it is a cold object and the comet is attracted by the cold object more is it attracted by hot regions.
And for this reason, we see the large number of craters on the surface of Moon.

God - be exalted - said in the Quran 36: 39

وَالْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنَاهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّى عَادَ كَالْعُرْجُونِ الْقَدِيمِ

The explanation:
(And the moon, We have decreed it[s] phases, till it returns like an old 'curved stalk of a date-clusters.')

The old 'curved stalk of a date-clusters', having its dates culled and eaten, and the remaining date caps, will have the shape of moon's surface and its craters; and this Quranic revelation may indicate that Moon going on its phases during all this long time until it became like the old 'curved stalk of a date-clusters'.
