Jupiter and the planets farther than it, are not gaseous. Jupiter is like Earth : It is solid, but the thing is that it has a tremendous atmosphere, because of its huge volume --> which led to the misconcept that it is gaseous.
The indication of this lies in the fact that the famous Shoe maker comet: when it impacted the planet Jupiter, its fragments bounced after striking its solid surface; if it was gaseous, then no such bounce would result.
